WHY VBE?

ADVANTAGES of VBE

VBE (values-based education) is not just an add-on or a gimmick to improve your school – it is something far more foundational. Just as every school has an academic framework to support students’ intellectual development, it must also have a moral, ethical and character-building framework to support children’s moral development. That is precisely what VBE offers: a moral framework.

Many renowned scholars have highlighted the close connection between intellectual and moral development (e.g. Piaget), and some have argued that moral development is a prerequisite for cognitive development – and vice versa (e.g. Kohlberg).

Below are just a few of the benefits that the VBE philosophy can bring to your school.

Imporvement across the border

A 2018 survey of 30 VBE schools showed that VBE helped to improve outcomes across a wide range of metrics — including academic achievement, healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, etc.

staff as an extended work family

Research has shown that VBE schools foster positive staff relationships to the extent that teachers not only support one another, but often refer to their colleagues as their extended work family.

VALUES for life and beyond the school

Universal positive human values not only foster a positive school atmosphere — they carry over into home and community life, stay with children, and guide their ethical choices into adulthood, becoming their values for life.

THE Unifying role
of VBE

A shared foundation of universal positive human  values — and a collaborative process for choosing them — unites students, teachers, and parents, regardless of their skin colour, nationality, religion, or political views.

1

The VBE implementation process is carried out both online and in person (audits, seminars, training sessions, and workshops). As such, costs arise for travel (flights, trains, and transfers) and accommodation (hotels or guesthouses) of VBE experts. These expenses are covered by the host school. Within the same region or country, such costs typically range from £420 to £660 (depending on the selected package). International travel and accommodation costs vary depending on location and the number of experts required.

2

Where the number of teaching staff exceeds 30–40, seminars and training sessions must be delivered in smaller groups. An additional charge of £1,320 applies for every subsequent group of up to 30 participants.

3

Any transaction costs arising from international payments, currency conversion, or cross-border transfers shall be borne by the host institution.
